[Ad-gifted] As the excitement for Easter builds in our house, the John Adams‘s Chocolate Lolly Maker was the perfect distraction for my chocolate-loving daughter, Jemma.
Containing everything you need – except the chocolate – to melt, mould and wrap, four fun lolly shapes. Once you have everything set up, it’s like a little workstation to create cute chocolate lollies that are perfect for gifts, or (as in our case!) treats to eat straight away.
The box contains lolly wrapper unit, four lolly moulds and two lolly mould holders, eight message moulds, chocolate melter, spoon and stirrer, lolly sticks, bags and ribbon.
The kit is aimed at kids aged six plus and for safety reasons is not recommended for those under three years of age. The lolly maker needs to be used under supervision of an adult and was a great activity to do with my four-year-old.
What we thought of the Chocolate Lolly Maker
Jemma is a big fan of baking and cake decorating, so was very excited to try out the chocolate lolly maker. The information leaflet has easy to follow steps and there is very little prep needed…other than remembering to buy the chocolate!
I kept it simple and just bought a bag of chocolate buttons, but from looking at the design ideas on the box, you can get creative with different types of chocolate and various sprinkles. Maybe we will try something more adventurous next time now that we’ve got the hang of what we need to do.
The box contains a chocolate melter that you (the adult) add hot water to from the tap. Now, I did follow the instructions to run the tap until it’s hot, but it just didn’t seem to get hot enough to melt the chocolate! Instead, I went rogue and used some water from the kettle that I had left to cool down.
Alternatively, it might have melted more easily if I’d used smaller pieces of chocolate, so I may try chocolate chips next time instead of buttons.
Jemma loved choosing which lolly moulds to use – there are four designs to choose from – and picked the heart and star moulds for our first attempt. She is very independent so loved the fact that this set allowed her to do so much by herself.
Jemma added the buttons to the melter and used the stirrer to break down the chocolate to a smooth consistency. She then simply spooned the mixture into the moulds – I had prepped the moulds by placing them into the holder and adding the sticks.
Then it was just a case of placing them into the fridge or freezer to set. We opted for the freezer, and it suggests they should be set in about 20-30 minutes. There are also eight little message moulds that you can use to stamp cute messages into the chocolate. The leaflet recommends using the message moulds after the lollies have set for five to ten minutes, but after seven minutes in the freezer the chocolate was already too solid to create the messages! I’ll check after just two or three minutes next time.
The lollies are really easy to get out of the moulds and can obviously be enjoyed straight away, but the box also contains a lolly wrapping unit with bags and ribbon, so that you can turn your lollies into special little gifts to give to friends or family.
I found this part of the process a little fiddly – both for little hands and mine! But maybe it’s something that gets easier once you have used it a few times. The finished product did look very cute, and Jemma was overjoyed at how ‘professional’ all completed chocolate lollies looked.
Another plus for this activity is that it’s something that be used over and over again. There are loads of lolly sticks, bags, and ribbon included, so you only need more chocolate to be able to pull of the Chocolate Lolly Maker whenever you (or your little one) are in the mood.

They give the mould with kit, but yes you could change the mould and just pour the warmed chocolate into it for a different shape
