It’s summertime and for some of us, that means a holiday!
Possibly at the beach or by a pool and what better way to lounge than on a towel, in your swimsuit, with a large exotic drink and a good eBook.
An eBook is the easiest way to take a handful of books on holiday and is much lighter than a paperback book. Another advantage is that you can swap and change between novels if you like depending on your mood because you have them all to hand on one device. But how to choose what to take? Maybe our latest eBook review will be just the one.
Marriage and Mayhem for the Tobacco Girls by Lizzie Lane is one of several books in the Tobacco Girls series – number five to be exact. So if you like our review, be sure to check out the other four books before this one!

What I thought of Marriage and Mayhem for the Tobacco Girls by Lizzie Lane
I was a little nervous starting this book bearing in mind that I hadn’t read the other four books that come before this one. But I needn’t have worried. The book manages to introduce all of the characters (that must be familiar to those of you that may have read Lizzie Lane’s other books) in a way that makes you feel as though you know all there is to know about them.
This is a plod-along soap opera-style novel, that would appeal to lovers of period soap-opera tv series, such as Call the Midwife or the radio series, The Archers. The saga is set in the mid-1940s heading towards the end of the war.
It follows a group of female characters, called Maisie, Phylis and Bridget each connected through the tobacco factory they once worked at. We find out how they are all in different moments of their lives, and follow each of their stories.
Although their stories are connected through their friendship they each have different dramas that unfold throughout the book. Each of them is in different parts of the world and each of them carrying out different roles as war women.
The book is an appealing read due to the variety of tales being told. You can easily pick up and put down this book, which is why it’s perfect to take on holiday. Lizzie Lane has a readable writing style and this novel has heartfelt qualities around friendships that are bound by the disasters surrounding WW2.
Be sure to check out this novel and many more and keep reading to find out where you can get yours.

About the book
About the Author
Lizzie Lane has written over 50 novels many of which have featured on the Best Sellers list. Her latest Tobacco Girls series has been inspired by where she grew up in Bristol listening to the stories her family members told her about working in the factories during the war.
She feels that writing about this time, when many women’s lives (much as the men) changed so dramatically, makes for a great anchor for her novels.
As well as the Tobacco Girls series, she has written many more books in and around wartime Britain, to name just a few, War Baby, Wartime Sweetheart, Wartime Family and many many more.

My Kindle Reader is ALWAYS with me and always full of books, no matter where I go! It’s so convenient. I haven’t heard of the Tobacco Girls series but I’m going to go add it to my library list right now.
So glad to hear that
I’m always on the lookout for easy to read ebooks while traveling. This looks great. Thanks!
A good series to get into
I love books that have intertwining stories that both cross and yet are still independent of one another. It’s such a fun style to read.
Agree, nice summer read as well
Agree and not boring
This is the first time I have heard about this book series. It looks like worthwhile reads, so I am going to go ahead and search for these titles so I can start reading them.
Definitely worth a check
I love that it’s a soap opera style, sounds like something my mum would enjoy. I’ve still struggled to get into ebooks, for me nothing beats a good physical book x
I love reading both, ebooks are great when I go on holiday
I am currently reading A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson, such a great book. I will check this one for sure. Thank you so much…
You are welcome
It looks like a good read. I would love to check out this sometime soon.
Hope you do
