[Ad-gifted] We’re big readers in our household so whenever I get asked if i’d like to review a new children’s book with my tiny book worms I always jump at the chance.  Margot, aged 3, loves to devour picture books at any time of the day and has an incredibly sweet soul – that said we sometimes have to prompt a ‘please’ or ‘thank you’ out of her so in preparation for starting school in September The Impolite Imps is the perfect story to remind little ones the importance of manners.

The Impolite Imps is the first in the ‘Uh Oh Milo’ series by of picture books written by Kate Wogan and illustrated by Helen Faulkner. The cheeky imps have invaded their grandma’s house to spread some bad manners. They don’t say please, the make a mess and try hard to get the children Milo and Mary to misbehave too. Thankfully Grandma saves the day with her magical manners pie which is shared with the imps and children, ultimately restoring peace and normality to the household and most importantly – manners.

The book is bright and vibrant with plenty of funny moments that will certainly strike a chord with little imaginations – the mere mention of burps and bottoms in this house and the kids absolutely lose it – so the book was a big hit whilst carrying a big message.

Since reading the book for the first time, it’s become a big hit with Margot who’s asked to read it at bedtime several times this week alone. I think stories that remind children about behaviour are really positive and this book does so in a really fantastic way without it being preachy. It’s effective in its message to encourage good manners in a fun way and children will enjoy the cheeky nature of the imps whilst recognising how important good manners are.

About the Author

Kate Wogan is the author of ‘Uh Oh Milo’ book series and a mother herself – which is probably why the book is so relatable. Her stories, themes and characters will feel very familiar to preschool parents.

Helen Faulkner’s artwork is perfect for the series. It’s bright, engaging and lots of fun!
