As the mother of a daughter and two boys, I sometimes find it difficult to find interesting toys for my elder daughter due to the fact that she isn’t a girly girl. So when we were sent the MC2 Spy Kit to review she was really keen to try it, having seen various of these kits on TV, she knew that they were girly science kits, which is more interesting than just a makeup kit or handbag! Within the collection of MC2 products they have others such as an Ultimate Lab kit (which contains a microscope), a Lip Balm kit, and a Perfume Maker amongst just some. All the kits involve making experiments, or products, which means having to follow instructions to complete the tasks. All of which my daughter loves to do.
As you can see the kit is nicely packaged giving you a nice indication of whats inside. My daughter did need a bit of help getting into but once she was in the kit had a good selection of items inside, including an instruction book which also explained that you would need to buy or purchase some of the ingredients to make some of the fizzing distractions that are inside the box. Most of the other items were ready to use, including a lipstick which could be used to send messages to someone. It has the same action as it little air gun and the lipstick colour shot across the room, where the next person could find a message inside.

What my daughter thought:
The spy kit was great. I love how you could actually get a finger print and copy it. But it could improve, with a key to open it, because how you open it makes it not so secret (as it can be opened by anyone). The lipstick is very good because I like the way it triggered send a message, but it did nearly break when I did it. I liked the little cupboards inside the bag, but the kit could have come with more things to put in the cupboards. But the toy is very fun.

My thoughts
At a retail price of £39.99 I find the kit a little basic, although all the things inside are quite fun, you still need to supply quite a few items yourself in order to do some of the actual science experiments. My children did spend around 20 minutes doing the finger printing. Also the powder for finger prints can be used as blusher which I thought was quite fun. All in all my daughter really likes this kit and over the summer she plans to get some baking soda and vinegar to carry out one of the experiments (both ingredients are was to get hold of). It makes for a nice toy for a 9-year-old, an age which can often be quite complicated to buy for, when you still want them to have toys as opposed to anything more grown up. This toy seems to have found the balance between fun, and playful and of course cool for this age bracket.

How much is it and where can I buy it from?
The toy can be purchased from Ebay, Amazon and Smyths Toy Superstore, for £39.99.
What does the kit include ?
The Ultimate Spy Bag contains 20+ secret agent pieces which includes the following:
• Fingerprinting kit – includes dusting powder that can also be used as shimmer makeup powder
• Air blower that looks like a perfume bottle
• Cards to collect fingerprints
• Magnifier hidden in a makeup compact
• Secret message launcher that looks like a lipstick
• Flashlight disguised as a nail polish bottle
• Beakers, test tubes and booklet with fun, secret agent experiments
• Batteries Required: 3 x AG13 (included)

Looks interesting, it’s always good to find toys for girls that aren’t too “girly”

Okay, this is stinking cute. I would have LOVED to have a playset like this when I was a little girl – too bad they don’t have something similar in the US, I would totally splurge for one for my little one. I think they’d get a real kick out of it!

Wow! I actually bought this for my little sister a few years ago for Christmas. She’s really into science and we were able to find some cool experiments online to do.

I was obsessed with Harriet the Spy as a kid, I’d have loved something like this. But it does sound a little pricy.

I love the idea of the set, but I’m not that keen on the colours. I don’t think boys should play with blue toys and girls should play with pink toys, but that both should play with toys that sparkles their imagination, makes them learn new things and acquire new skills. For those reasons I think this is a wonderful toy.

yeahlifestyle July 27, 2018 - 1:43 pm

Well we had both boys and girls play with this toy so for the kids it really did not matter what colour the bag was x

I think it’s so important to not fall into gender roles for toys so hate things that are branded ‘for girls’ or ‘for boys’

Reply
yeahlifestyle July 27, 2018 - 1:41 pm

Well we don’t mind that so much Ellie, we have both girls and boys who play with each others toys but when we buy them its easier if they are labelled for girls or boys

Aww this looks like so much fun! I’ve sent this link to my brother in law, his daughter is maybe a little too young right now, but knowing her and her personality – once she’s older I’m willing to bet she’d love this! Great review!
