Review: Taylors Eye Witness Brooklyn Copper 3pc Knife Set *

We were sent the Taylors Eye Witness Brooklyn Copper 3pcs Knife set to review recently. Most of you, who follow our blog would know that we are big foodies and enjoy cooking and baking a lot. So I was curious to test out these knives and to also find out more about them as I wasn’t familiar with the brand at all.  But like with all our reviews, we like to dig a little deeper and look into the businesses and companies that are making and supplying these interesting products.

Taylor’s eye witness was established back in 1838, which shows the heritage of this company.   John Taylor was the founder of the company that was situated (up until 2018) in the famously known steel industry town of Sheffield. The knives were designed, developed and manufactured in Sheffield, and although the factory location has changed it is still within Sheffield, however, within a much more modern building. Currently, still a lot of the knives are made in Sheffield however, the ones we have reviewed were made outside the UK.  For more information on which products are still made within the UK and for other kitchen items, you can also head to Todayscave.com.

The knives came presented in a lovely toughened card box, with magnetic closing. Within that, the knives are displayed in a clear casing within the box.  The perfect opportunity came to try the knives as I was making stir fry. I chopped onions with theall-purposee knife, the knife was sharp and cut well through the onion, although when using the paring knife, I found it so light that it struggled to cut through the carrot with the same ease that the onion had been cut with the all purpose knife. When using the large knife identified on the box as a santoku knife, this again is a very light knife and also extremely sharp. I have been using this knife over a few days and I find it works really well on chicken and other tender meats, also on oranges and other soft fruits and vegetables. I found that none of the knifes worked well on carrots and harder vegetables such as these although, I was able to cut through a large sweet potato quite easily with the santoku knife. It is now my go to knife though, for chopping up oranges!

Overall I found all the knives to be very sharp, although due to them being so light, they have no weight behind them to cut through very hard items of food. Considering this I wouldn’t say they aren’t still great. They certainly would make a lovely gift, as they are well presented in a nice box. You might prefer other brands but I would say, give these a go if you find your own knives too heavy, as these are super light, which makes them quite pleasant to use.

• Use wooden or plastic chopping boards to avoid blunting the blade
• For simple safe knife sharpening, it is recommended to use the Chantry Knife Sharpener
• Although they are dishwasher safe it is recommended to hand wash
• Do not clean with an abrasive cleaner or a steel wool scourer
