[Ad-gifted] In our next review, we are featuring the Womens Yonex Power Cushion shoes and Men’s Yonex Power Cushion Cascade Drive 2 Badminton Shoes from Badminton HQ.
For those who are unfamiliar with the game, badminton was said to have been developed in British India from the earlier game of battledore and shuttlecock. The game was later reinvented in 1873 in Gloucestershire, England, by the Duke of Beaufort, who brought the game back from India. The game generally involves two/four opponents hitting the shuttlecock over the net into the other person’s side. One badminton match is made up of three games of 21 points each.
This is a cheap and easy game to play at home in the garden or in parks so long as it is not a windy day. My children have been playing badminton for fun for years now in the garden and enjoy the game. All you need is badminton racquets, a couple of shuttlecocks and a good pair of shoes!
More recently we have been going to our local Leisure Centre where a proper net has been set up in the court. A great way to bond as a family and stay fit at the same time. So keep on reading to find out more about both the shoes and what we thought of them.

What did we think of the Yonex Badminton Shoes?
Badminton is a sport I grew up playing in Malaysia as we are very passionate about it there, (being a Commonwealth country) hence I am very aware of the damage it can do to the player’s knees after a long period of time. My uncle and cousin had knee problems as they both used to play badminton every weekend for over 10 years and I am guessing this is mainly due to using shoes which lack arch support and hence this puts a lot of strain on their knees when doing smash shots.

Fast forward to 2024 and I find that my husband and children heading to our local Leisure Centre every weekend to enjoy a game of badminton and this worried me until we received the Yonex Badminton Shoes. So let me share more about these shoes by starting with the Women’s Yonex Power Cushion Shoes in white which is available in UK Size 4.5 to 8.5.

My 13-year old teen is starting to get particular with what she wears and loves the colour and style of this shoe. She was not used to the padding and felt it was tight, till I adjusted the shoe lace. These shoes also are slightly heavier compared to her lightweight running shoes. I explained to her that the paddings are there to help absorb the impact of the jump when playing badminton. These are now her go to shoes for badminton.
Power Cushion+ – Provides improved cushioning and repulsion properties, enhancing footwork on court.
Round Sole – Improves the gait of the foot by allowing grip from the heel through to the front of the toes. The rounded effect aids in a more flowing movement.
Radial Blade Sole – Designed for confidence in directional change. A new sole pattern increasing traction in vertical, horizontal and diagonal movements
Durable Skin Light – Combining rubber-like flexibility with the stiffness of hard film, the polyurethane-based Durable Skin Light lets you play light on your feet while maintaining a secure and snug fit.
Feather Bounce Foam – A new lightweight cushioning material designed to provide an added bounce with each step.
Power Graphite Sheet – A graphite plate is inserted under the middle portion of the sole to increase stability and reduce weight within the shoe.
Double Raschel Mesh – Double Raschel Mesh is an ultra fine mesh that is extremely lightweight and durable. It provides eight times more air-exchange for releasing moisture than ordinary mesh fabric.

Next, The Men’s Yonex Power Cushion Cascade shoes in clear black was my husband’s choice. These shoes are available from UK Size 7.5 to 11.5, so teen boys would need to wait a bit longer before they can start using these shoes.
Again, my husband felt the shoes were comfy thanks to the Gen 2 Memory Foam, he also said they were an exact fit. I think these shoes are not true to size, so try to order at least half a size or full size up if you want them to be absolutely comfy. My husband does have some knee problem but has not felt any extra pressure wearing these when he does smash shots in the court. So the shoes are helping take the pressure off his knees.
I was always taught from a young age to never skimp on shoes as they do carry the weight of the whole body, so getting good shoes especially for sports is so important. Good shoes will of course minimise knee injury, risk of ankle injures or foot blisters which no one likes.
Also another tip! Don’t wear your court shoes outside as this will degrade the grip in the long run and bring dirt onto the court.

Features include:
POWER CUSHION – The Power Cushion absorbs shock and then reverses the impact energy for smooth transfer into the next movement.
Toe Assist Shape – A toe-centric design that cuts down on pressure in the big toe, as well as offering improved support at the mid-foot and heel for a stable fit. Power loss is reduced, allowing for swift footwork.
Round Sole – The Round Sole is designed to provide all-around support for quick and smooth footwork.
Radial Blade Sole – Designed for confidence in directional change.
Double Raschel Mesh – Is an ultra-fine mesh that is extremely lightweight and durable. It provides eight times more air exchange for releasing moisture than ordinary mesh fabric, keeping your feet cool and dry during long sessions.
Durable Skin – This visually improved upper design technology increases durability whilst maintaining comfort for smoother footwork.
Inner Bootie – A bootie is integrated into the shoe connecting to the tongue and cradling your foot for improved comfort and a better all-around fit.
Where can you get your Yonex Badminton Shoes and how much are they?
My daughter is wearing the Womens Yonex Power Cushion Eclipsion Z3 (white) and this retails for £98.95 while my husband is wearing Men’s Yonex Power Cushion Cascade Drive 2 Badminton Shoes (clear black) and this costs £94.99. Both items are currently on discount.
The women’s shoes are available in UK Size 4.5 to 8.5 while the men’s shoes are available in UK Size 7.5 to 11.5. My daughter is wearing the UK Size 5 while my husband is using UK Size 9 in this post.
Please note that we would recommend to go up half a size of a full size as their shoes tend to be small fitting and not true to size.

We used to play badmington a lot, but not played in a while due to my husbands injury on his knees. These shoes look great and comfortable for a game
At this point, I do look for shoes with foam and good support before I purchase them! These ones sound great for exercise and I love their style too.
I am hearing about this brand’s badminton shoes for the first time but they look pretty attractive and durable. Awesome product indeed!
Badminton is such a classic game, and having the right shoes can make all the difference, especially when it comes to preventing knee and ankle issues.
I don’t know the brand Yonex but it seems amazing and very comfy. I would love to buy me a pair just to test them out.
The personal anecdote about playing badminton with family adds a relatable touch, highlighting the game’s suitability for casual play at home or in local leisure centers. Overall, it’s a great introduction to the joys of badminton for beginners.
I actually never realised they made trainers specifically just for badminton. These both look really great. I especially like the lighter ones.
I love the combination of comfort and support in these shoes. You need both of those for badminton!
They sound like a really great pair of sporting shoes and they are stylish too! It’s so important to have quality footwear in sports. Definitely a top investment.
