Christmas at the Farmhouse by Rebecca Boxall
I find that I just love reading Christmas themed books from the start of December as it just gets me into the Christmas feel and mood and I do continue to read them until early January when our Christmas tree comes down. Christmas themed novels are a great gift for those who love reading. Although I have started to read more eBooks during the lockdown, there is nothing like receiving a book beautifully wrapped up. Christmas at the Farmhouse by Rebecca Boxall is a heartwarming story of the Nielsen family. Published by Wild Fox Press, the story is set in 2019 in Jersey and shares about Jo, Magnus and their grown-up children who meet up for a hybrid Danish-Jersey festive season.
At the same time, the book also weaves back 50 years earlier to Sussex where Susan Jones finds herself being pursued by Mr Jenners, her former English teacher, and at the age of seventeen is packed off to a Home for Unmarried Mothers in London by her uncompromising father. The two timelines so beautifully brings the story together and shares that hope can eventually triumph over even the deepest sadness. The author’s easy writing makes the book a breeze to read and interesting with lots of surprises. There are also a lot of heartbreaking moments in the book as well as triumphs of joy and the excitement as the two timelines gets closer to each other. The paperback copy of this book retails for £8.99 and you can purchase it from Amazon.

A Perfect Paris Christmas by Mandy Baggot
If you like me have been watching Emily in Paris and day dreaming of heading to the romantic city this Christmas then you must grab yourself a copy of A Perfect Paris Christmas by Mandy Baggot. Published by Head of Zeus/Aria, the book is the perfect holiday romance novel to curl up to next to your tree as you indulge in a warming cup of hot chocolate topped with marshmallows. The book is about Keeley Andrews who knows more than anyone that you only live once. So when she receives an invitation to spend two weeks in Paris, all expenses paid, she jumps at the chance.
Ethan Bouchard has had the worst eighteen months of his life. He’s ready to give up on everything, including his hotel chain. So when he meets Keeley, it simply isn’t the right time. As Keeley and Ethan continue to bump into each other on the romantic Parisian streets, they can’t help but wonder whether this is fate telling them to let go of the past and leap into the future. So if you have been meaning to spend Christmas in Paris but have had to postpone your holiday due to Covid, then why not virtually travel there via this festive book which also looks into deeper topics such sadness, loss and grief. The paperback for A Perfect Paris Christmas retails on Amazon for £7.37.

So as you can tell this is an amazing book to add to your collection or gift your loved one as a present.

Elizabeth: A Celebration in Photographs by Jennie Bond
If you are a fan of the Royal Family then this Hardcover coffee table book titled Elizabeth: A Celebration in Photographs is a must-have. Written by the county’s top expert on the royal family offering genuinely original and informative insight into the life of Queen Elizabeth II. The book is packed full of stunning photographs of the Queen’s life and reign as she is the longest-serving monarch in British history. She has been a towering presence in British national life and throughout the world for almost 70 years and it is this extraordinary life that former BBC correspondent Jennie Bond explores and celebrates.
On February 6, 1952, Princess Elizabeth, Duchess of Edinburgh, became Queen on the death of her father, King George VI. The reign that was to see major changes both in the country and Commonwealth and in the role of the monarchy began far away from Britain in a game reserve in Kenya. This book looks at this remarkable period in the history of Britain’s monarchy in lavish and fascinating detail, featuring over 240 photographs. Constantly under scrutiny ever since she took the throne, this book presents a balanced and absorbing account of the Queen’s life and of her role as the head of state in a country and a world that have changed almost beyond recognition in the seventy years since she inherited the throne. Priced at £14.95 on Amazon, this is a fantastic Christmas present to gift someone who collects memorabilia of the Royals.

Flight Envelope by Steve Ford
Flight Envelopes is written and published by engineer and pilot Steve Ford. Steve’s first book, 20 West was part insider’s look at the aviation industry and part memoir. Formed from a career spanning six decades of huge change and a love of flying, the book aimed to give an objective, overall view of aviation from a pilot, passenger and business perspective.
In contrast ‘Flight envelopes’ is a series of opinion pieces on various aspects of manned flight – from aircraft safety to pilot training to space flight. After Steve was asked to write several pieces for industry magazines and blogs, he felt he had become something of an industry commentator. Here, he takes 24 elements of the industry which he thought he could write openly and honestly about and gives his thoughts on each in a short chapter. As you might expect from someone so familiar with aviation and his field, there is a little jargon in the book, but I was able to understand the majority of the pieces without any specific knowledge. The author’s passion and conviction, based on his years of experience, come across strongly here, making the book a persuasive read.
If you have a flying enthusiast, frequent air passenger or even pilot-in-training amongst your family and friends, use this link to purchase a copy of Steve Ford’s philosophy of flight for them. At £1.99 for the Kindle edition and £4.99 for the paperback, this book will make an interesting and thought-provoking stocking filler.
