Review: Minecraft Chess Set from The Noble Collection

A perfect game for weekends indoors, or something to pad out the Easter half-term could be the Minecraft Chess Set from The Noble Collection that we have been sent to review.

My kids love Minecraft and even though they are getting older its popularity seems to keep on going. But although I like the concept of building and creating that the game offers, it still involves being on a screen.

So, with this latest Minecraft Chess Set you are getting the creative aspects of Minecraft through the adapted pieces of the chess board – that have been made into well known Minecraft characters – I say well known, I have no clue what any of them are but of course my kids do! Keep reading to see what we thought of this Minecraft novelty chess set.

What we thought of the Minecraft Chess Set from The Noble Collection?

Firstly, from the perspective of a parent, I was impressed with the quality of the set. Sometimes it’s hard to distinguish the pieces when you have novelty chess sets but I think that this set has good designs, so they are easy to tell which is which, even though they don’t look like conventional chess pieces.

The board is nice too as it’s solid plastic and not made from layered card, like a regular chess set. The pieces are made from hard plastic and feel sturdy, as though they would last, especially predominately being played with by children in our house. I think the design is loyal to Minecraft too, which for die-hard fans is important to know.

My kids love this set and we love to play chess, so it really is a win, win. The characters are apparently a bunch of Overworld Heroes versus Hostile Mobs. I have no clue who they are but I am told they feature within Minecraft and fit well as the chess pieces they are representing. But I have to say they really look impressive laid out on the chess board

Chess is a great game for children to get into, it’s an educational board game that involves maths and problem solving. It takes time to learn but once you’ve mastered it, it’s just like riding a bike and is never forgotten. You can be a little rusty if you haven’t played for some time but again, the more time you spend playing, you soon start to figure out new moves and plays that will get you winning!

So, all in all, this is a great buy. You might simply want to get this set and keep it as a collectors piece or you might, like us, want to thoroughly enjoy it and play with the wacky Minecraft characters that make the game play so much more fun than traditional set. And of course this totally ties in with Minecraft Mania that is bound to follow in the coming weeks when the new film comes out featuring the super funny Jack Black!
