For reader and followers of our blog, you would know that I have been sharing some Alsace Bredele recipes the last few years featuring delicious cookies especially made in the east of France, Alsace and Lorraine. It is customary to bake a selection of “bredele” biscuits to be given away to family and friends as Christmas gifts.
Over the years, I have made lots of different ones such as Boules de Linz Fourrees (Linz Biscuits with Jam), Butter Biscuits with Marzipan and Anis Bredele. I normally make around 25 different types and these are stored separately in biscuits tins until they are given away.
So every year at Christmas I try a new bredele recipe and this one was found in my cookbook. The original recipe is made with walnuts but I have used pecans this year as I had ground pecans at home.

Ingredients
150g butter
250g sugar
1 tsp vanilla
250g ground walnuts
15g cinnamon
4 eggs
400g plain flour

Method
Set your oven temperature anywhere from 180 to 200C
Turn the butter into a foam (mousse like) and add the sugar and vanilla. Continue to mix for a few minutes. Next add the ground walnuts, cinnamon, eggs (one at a time) and then the flour. Mix into a smooth dough.
Using a teaspoon, drop small drops of the dough onto a lined baking tray.
Bake for approx. 15 minutes

I do not like walnuts but my family do and I do love baking at Christmas, they sound amazing and look easy to make. Will be treating my family to these and at least I will not be tempted to try them first and love baking things I would never normally make for myself
You can of course use the original Pecan nuts in the recipe if you prefer
omg this looks sooooo delicious. I love walnuts with biscuits, they add a depth of flavors. I can’t wait to make your recipe, can’t wait.
Do tell me what you think of it Karen as it is super tasty
Those look so good! First of all, I love walnuts. Second, I love old-school recipes like this. Yum!
Agree, simple and traditional recipes tastes so good!
Oh my gosh, these were so good! I love the earthy, nutty flavor. It’s so old-fashioned.
These look so cozy and perfect for Christmas gifting. I might have to try the pecan version myself because they sound amazing.
And why not! It is a fab book
I’m not the best baker, but I really enjoy it at Christmas time with the kids. I’ve not made anything like this before, but it sounds really straight forward. I think even I could do it! Haha. I bet these smell delicious when baking.
The individual Bredele biscuits are easy to make, then you just mix them together to make a fabulous gift bag
This walnut biscuits recipe looks very delicious. Got to try preparing a small batch this weekend.
Hope you can give this a go Hari
I love walnuts, so I am going to give this a try since it seems so easy to make. Thank you for sharing this old-fashioned recipe.
You can use the original pecan nuts too for a change next time
I’ve been doing a lot of Xmas baking over the last few days , these look yummy
How lovely to hear that, nothing like freshly baked cookies and cakes
Making 25 different biscuits is such a big task! I would love to be on your gifting list – this looks fantastic.
It is, but I get my family around to help me. Its become our tradition
