August Gift Guide Feature – Kid’s School Holiday Special *

This month we have decided to share with you 5 lovely items to keep your little ones busy at home, we know that the long summer school holidays can be a little tiring for parents if you have not planned long holidays abroad due to work schedules. In this gift guide we feature Strictly Bricks’s Brik Tower, Gardening & Nature Box  by Mud and Bloom, Disney Ultimate 2.0 Backpack by Samsonite, The Magic of My Name Personalised Book by My Magic Story as well as Daler Rowney Graduate Acrylic Paint by Hobby Craft. Hope these items will help inspire you and keep your little ones busy during the school holidays. These are fabulous items to be given out as gifts as well, so read on to find out more.

Strictly Briks Brick Tower

If you are a parent just like us, who have kids, who love to play with lego and often find little pieces of legos thrown about everywhere, then you would definitely need to get this for your little one. These Strictly Briks Tower which measures 10″ x 10″ is compatible with all major brands of bricks, including lego and mega bloks brand sets.  These are just the perfect size to create little lego towers and for kids to place their lego creations on it so the whole place stays nice and tidy. The six base plate comes in green, blue and grey shade of colour and also comes with 50 stackers to help it stay stable.  We found that us adults, personally loved this more than the kids as it keeps the house nice and tidy and we don’t have as many lego toys strewn around everywhere now.  Kids totally enjoyed playing with it as they are able to take it apart and use each base on its own or stack it on the top of each other as a tower. We would only suggest not to put too much pressure or press the tower too hard as it can collapse easily, otherwise another fab item to have around the house especially during this school holidays.  Priced at £21.99, you can purchase it from Amazon here.

Mud & Bloom

We were sent this beautiful box of Gardening & Nature Box by Mud and Bloom to feature in our guide. This is not only a fun little kit for kids but it also inspires families to get their children outdoors and be more connected to nature. We planted the radishes in an old pot we had in the house, you have to re-hydrate the peat-free compost pellets that comes in the pack, but this is straightforward if you follow the instructions.  Our kids also decorated a small jar (left over from some chocolate spread) with the buttons and beads in the pack; the glue was a little difficult to use but if you have superglue, it works just as well. Making the nature paint brushes is fun and is something we think our kids will do again and again. Overall it is a nice kit which came in an environmentally friendly packaging and to top it all, the seeds are also certified organic. Don’t worry if you don’t have any garden space as the peat-free compost will help anyone grow the seeds in whatever space or containers that they have.  It costs £45 for a 6 months subscription (6 packs over a period of 6 months), they also do a sibling offer which means you get an additional pack at a discounted price. So if you are wondering what you can do to keep your 3 to 8 year-old kids busy this school holidays, this would be perfect! Get subscribing for a box here.

The Magic of My Name Personalised Book

Books are a great way to keep kids entertained during the school holidays and this book titled Magic of My Name is even more special as it is personalised, with your child’s name and look. The book was easy to order online only requiring the child’s name…in this case ‘Madeline’, her gender and we also had to pick the closest looking protagonist to her. We could also include a special message at the start of the book, perfect if this is a gift for someone you know.  The book arrived quickly and we loved that the glossy pages were thick enough for little hands to turn. With colourful and child-friendly illustration and easy to read text, Madeline enjoyed the book and thought it was like she was going on an adventure herself.  The book costs £23.99 and transport charges cost £4.99. You can order a copy of your book here alternatively if your child is a Liverpool fan, try reading our review of another personalised book they do here.

Disney Ultimate 2.0 Backpack

Wondering how you can keep little ones busy this holidays? Then why not consider purchasing this lovely Disney Ultimate 2.0 Backpack by Samsonite which is made from 100% polyester and has Mickey letters all over it.  Measuring 28.5 x 23.5 x 13.5cm, the bag is a perfect size and fit for any 3 to 6 year-olds and it allows them to independently carry their favourite toys and books on a day out. Our four-year-old loved the bag and packed it full of cars and other toys that he found around the house.  The bag can also easily fit in a change of clothes and a drink bottle and even a small sun cream bottle. For the price, the bag is solid, of good quality and well-made with padding hence will more than likely withstand being thrown around and dragged about by little ones.  The 3D soft mickey ears totally stand out and will put a smile on anyone’s face.  This backpack costs £33 and can be purchased here.

Daler Rowney Graduate Acrylic Paint

We have been keeping busy during the school holidays with lots of craft activities and one of our kid’s favourite past time is to take walks around the parks close by and to find painted rocks which they get to rehide again later for someone else to find.  We have been meaning to paint some rocks to hide ourselves so getting this lovely box of 9 colours of acrylic paint consisting of the shades of white, yellow, pink , red, blue, green, burnt umber, white and black was perfect for us.  The shades which comes in 120ml easy-squeeze tubes are mess free and allows for easy dispense of the colours.  We also used the paint in their original colour and also mixed them up into a variety of shades.  We found that these paints are great for painting on paper, canvas or rocks and the paint colours are vivid and attractive on these surfaces.  The lovely box also comes in handy for storing these paint away once you are done with them.  This set of painting can be purchased from Hobby Craft for £20.

I think that the Gardening & Nature Box is a brilliant gift because it’s not only fun but educative as well. I know how excited I am every time I plant something, waiting for the first plants to come out of the soil. It’s also a responsibility, as you’ll have to take care of them and water them in order to see the fruits/vegetables.
