[Ad-gifted] Walkie talkies have always been a popular toy for kids and never get boring. The Creator Video Walkie Talkies are part of the Studio Creator range from Canal Toys and have the added fun and functionality of video for close-up face-to-face chats. There are also 20 funny filters and five voice-changing effects for hours of fun!
The pack contains two colourful walkie talkies with wrist straps, bright turquoise and neon coral, a USB-C cable for charging, and an instruction booklet.
Aimed at kids aged five plus, I tried them out with my five-year-old daughter Jemma and her six-year-old bestie Jamie for an afternoon playdate.
There was lots of silly fun and games as the two chatted, laughed and had adventures.
What we thought of the Creator Video Walkie Talkies
Jemma and Jamie loved the walkie talkies! They have played together with standard walkie talkies lots of times before, but the Studio Creator ones added so much more fun and creativity to their play.
They are just the right size for little hands, and the kids loved the bright colours, with just a little bit of squabbling about who would have which one.
The instructions are straight forward and, of course, our two digital natives instantly picked up which buttons to press to switch between audio and video, and to add filters or change their voices.
The kids thought the filters were great fun, adding beards or bunny ears to their live images, and were in hysterics trying out the voice changer – the baby voice being a particular favourite!
They had a good range of 300 metres, so the kids ran to opposite ends of the house to try them out. The sound quality and video images were pretty good. You can be a bit further apart if you switch to just audio, which older kids might appreciate.
I love that you don’t need to be connected to the internet and that they don’t need batteries. After fully charging them with the USB-C cable that’s included in the pack we haven’t had to charge it again yet – and that’s been about a month of playing with them.
Jemma loved that she could do ‘video calls’ just like she sees grown-ups do on their mobile phones. I did have to keep explaining to her that there was no need to shout into the walkie talkies, but she was just so excited…I think half the street could hear her communications with Jamie!
The walkie talkies are great for adding some creativity to games such as hide and seek. Jemma and Jamie love playing police officers and now have their very own ‘police radios’ for their roleplay adventures.
We have also used them at bedtime, Jemma liked that she could ask for a drink or extra cuddles from her bed, though this got a little annoying for us parents! But Jemma loved the reassurance of having a way to communicate with us while we were downstairs.
Because they have a great range, especially on audio, I think we will get lots of use out of them over the summer when the kids play in the garden. It will give them the feeling of independence and freedom, while still providing them with a quick communication method to keep in touch.
They are a bit more expensive than a standard pair of walkie talkies, but I definitely think their added functions provide value for money. It’s a great way of entertaining two kids for hours of fun.

I love these toys; they’re very well-suited for this day and age. Our kids will grow up exposed to cams, videos, etc…Creator video walkie-talkies would be a good starting point for them.

Now this is an inventive idea for a walkie talkie toy. Growing up they’d always loose their luster after a while. The range was never strong enough. Adding a video component makes it cooler
