ASDA Photo Review : 12″ x 12″ Photobook*

I love collecting my children’s artwork, but over the years it’s built up to almost fill an entire cupboard. But unfortunately, I’m sentimental and love to hang on to them, however, my house has other ideas and was crying out to be decluttered.

You may be asking, “Well, what did you do with all the drawings? Throw them out?”…Shock no, of course, I didn’t! I took photos of each and every one of them and had them all safely on my phone, so I could finally throw out the originals. The only problem here is that I still felt as though I couldn’t look back on them in the same way as I had.

Then, just like magic, we were asked to review the ASDA Photobook. What better way to showcase their art than in their very own gallery-style photo book. Keep reading to find out what I did and what we thought of the book quality from ASDA Photo.

What we thought of the ASDA Photobook?

To start, I gathered together all the images of the drawings/illustrations I wanted to include in the book. I worked out that you can have seven photos per page, and in a minimum book order there are 20 pages, so I worked out I could include around 140 drawings (yes I had that many!). I selected my photo book, which was a 12inchx12inch hardback book with matt pages and borders around the images – you can choose from three selections of book styles at this point, some with and some without borders – I then went to the section where it asks you to add your photographs. A pop box opens and then you can drag or select the images (from your computer/phone) that you would like in the photo book.

The next part involves arranging all the downloaded photos into the book. I found this a little tricky at times. I have previous experience using different photo book printing sites and they do vary slightly. I struggled with trying to rotate the images and put them back into the correct place in the book once I had done it. But after a few pages, I did soon get the hang of it.

Once everything was in place, I went back into the book and selected my page colours. I chose to have this option and decided that with it being child-orientated I would make each page a different and bright colour. But, the ASDA photobook, allows you to be as creative as you want with the colours and if you have a theme or colour scheme you want to follow, it won’t be a problem as the colour selection is epic. I chose to include a nice photo on the front and got crafty with the text and managed to incorporate some hearts by using emojis that would work in the text/font section, to add additional detail to my title.

Once all this was done I clicked through the pages to order the book. I only had to wait around a week for the book to arrive. Considering all the printing involved I didn’t think this was too bad.

Once the book arrived I was eager to find out what it was like. Although years ago I would always have taken my film to be developed in the local supermarket, since transferring to digital, I have been drawn to companies that specialise in printing over the supermarket. However, I am totally converted. I can’t get over the quality of the book. The prints of the images are absolutely brilliant, they are clear, not dark (of course this will also depend on the quality of your original image) the pages at the start are made from beautiful quality paper. It really is a great book, and I will – for sure – be ordering from ASDA again when it comes to creating photo books.

How much is the book we reviewed? 

The book cost £38 (as we added four extra pages to the original amount) a standard one would cost £36 + £4 postage. You may get postage offers depending on your final amount spent. But you can get books starting from as little as £6 for an 8×6 inch soft cover album.
