It is Autumn and you might have noticed your toes getting a little colder? Well, keep reading as we have the perfect review to warm those toes back up, with a pair of Gumbies slippers! If you remember at the start of lockdown we had the perfect flip flops for staying at home as things were warming up. But now as we prepare for the weather to cool down and the nights to draw in, there’s nothing nicer than a comfy pair of slippers.
Gumbies started their brand with just their outback flip flop and over the years have expanded their range, and they have now moved into some indoor footwear too. Each pair of slippers is made from approximately 8 plastic bottles. They are vegan-friendly and are made using recycled plastic and rubber. So if you want a brand that is sustainable, we have certainly found it here with Gumbies.

What my husband thought of the slippers!
Well, he loves his Gumbles flip flops – as he called them until I laughed out loud and said no they’re called GUMBIES! So could not wait to try the Outback slippers. Again they are quite a just fit – I don’t want to say small as they fit him perfectly but he is generally a 9.5 – 10 in shoes and these are a 10 and are a spot-on fit, but with no additional room – so be aware of this when you order yours.
Literally, as soon as he put them on he said he didn’t want to take them off, and then blamed Gumbies (or Gumbles as he keeps saying) for turning him into an old man that just wants to wear slippers all day! So after a days wear, he came back in from the garage (where he had clearly still been wearing them!) and said, “wow these have really bedded in really well”. So not only are they comfy straight away, but also seem to have moulded well to his feet too.

The style is fairly non-descriptive but still looks great on. They don’t come in any particularly bright colours which is perhaps a shame but you can get them with accented binding. The binding comes in pink (which he’d have had but they only go up to a 9), turquoise, red, grey, charcoal and purple. The outer/main colour varies between a dark blue, grey and charcoal, so a fairly neutral palette.
Another great aspect of these slippers is that the inner sole is replaceable, so really adding to the longevity of the product. This is often the bit of the shoe that gets worn down the first too. So if this happens, you can buy another inner, that will easily slot into place. They are made from 100% Castor Bean which is a plant (that has been of course processed into the foam inner) and then topped with the same recycled felt that the rest of the slipper is made from.

About Gumbies
Michel Maurer is the founder and creator of Gumbies. He started his business based on simplicity, with his idea to create shoes that would suit a life that is less complicated. Which is exactly what he did when he came up with the Outback Flip Flop. Now he has a much more within his range including, sliders, deck shoes, brumby boots, and outback slippers. Gumbies have also included children into the mix too, with their classic Islander flip flop.
Gumbies head office is actually in the seaside town of Poole although it’s inspired by Australia. So much so that the map of the country featured on their shoe logo. The focal part of the Australian influence is from the Aboriginal culture and the tradition of Walkabout which occurs at the age of 16, and is a right of passage. This aspect of exploring the world and freedom that occurs through simple living is what has inspired Maurer to make Gumbies into what it is today.

It sure is, especially with the changing of the weather and it becoming more cooler
Having loved the flip flops so much, I asked for a pair of these slippers for my birthday a few weeks ago. They are really comfortable & hard-wearing so far & I’d thoroughly recommend them (Mine are my usual shoe size but seem a little big, so if you’re between sizes, I’d go with the smaller one)
Great tip Sharon and thank you for sharing that
Now these look so comfortable – I totally want to try a pair out now, they look perfect for keeping your feet warm and comfortable at the same time.
So agree with you Sarah, comfort and style
Not a brand that I’ve heard of before but I love the fact they don’t have smooth bottoms as those are slippery in our home. I think my dad would love them!
These are from Australia and once you have tried them, you will be converted!

These slippers look so comfy. Even if the are indoor slippers, I could definitely see myself navigating the garden in them, especially now when the weather is bad and my toes need protection from the cold.
